Outdoor cycling in rainy season

In the rainy season, the sky is always drifting with rain. Most people don't like the feeling of cycling in the rain outdoors. However, it is very important to learn to get used to the discomfort of cycling in rainy days and try to exert their normal riding performance. Especially for those who participate in the race, being able to bend in the rain can increase their self-confidence, while for the general outdoor cycling enthusiasts, riding in the rain can also avoid the panic caused by sudden heavy rain. Let's see how to adapt to the rainy weather when riding a bicycle.

1. Dress appropriately.

Nothing is worse than not wearing proper clothes when it rains. When cycling in cloudy weather, raincoats and rainshoes are necessarily worn, especially at low temperatures. When cycling in autumn and winter, wear warm clothes that are easy to take off. The warmth of the chest is very important in withstanding the downhill cold wind. Buying Gore-Tex textured gloves and coats is also a good choice.

2. After cycling in rainy weather, remember to clean the brake skin.

When you ride a bicycle in a rainy day, the gravel on the road will stick to the brake skin and the wheel frame more easily. You may also find that the wheel frame will be scratched by small stones and cause wear and tear of the brake skin.

3. Be careful when crossing the bend.

Very important! When it rains, slippery roads and gravel can make tyres slippery and make cornering more dangerous. Therefore, the braking time must be early, and other drivers must also be aware of the trend. When crossing the bend, the upper body is more straight and the speed is slower.

4. Avoid pumping when going uphill.

If the slope is rather steep (slope 10%+), please be careful not to pull, avoid rear wheel skidding, because wet road will make rear wheel friction weaker. Maintain the sitting position as much as possible so that the rear wheels bear more weight. Be careful of the metals on the road and the smoother parts, as well as the fallen leaves.

5. Know the road condition.

It sounds simple, but sometimes we forget the simplest things. Watch out for the grease stains on the road (you'll see colorful reflections) - and avoid the muddy pools, where there may be stones or pits underneath.

6. Install fenders.

Although some people may feel bad, at least you won't be sprayed with rain all over your body, and the people behind you won't be sprayed with mud.

7. Keep a clear view.

Yellow or transparent lenses are a smart choice for cycling in the rain. Yellow lenses are very useful when the line of sight is not good. They have the effect of illumination.

Moreover, the shape of the scenery will be clearer. This is not comparable to transparent lenses. Remember to wipe it regularly.

8. Buy a spare bicycle on rainy days.

If you live in a humid climate or in winter when roads need salt to prevent ice, it is recommended to buy two bicycles. Riding heavier bikes in off-season is also very effective for training.

9. Remember to turn on the lights.

The lamp has the function of lighting, but also makes it easier for the driver to see you and other riders.

10. Learning likes to ride on rainy days.

This is probably the hardest part. But think about it, when other cyclists are resting indoors, you can still ride outdoors, which actually makes you more motivated. Riding distance can be shortened, but remember to go all out to maximize the effect of cycling in rainy days.
